About the Vision Harvest Hosts:

Squamish First Nation

Stan Joseph Jr. created the Thunderbird logo for Squamish Nation in 1981.  The Thunderbird is one of the special messengers of the Creator.  The tail feathers represent past, present and future; in the talons is the face of a lizard, representing spiritual protection for all Squamish Nation people.

Mission Statement:

The Skwxwu7mesh UxWumixw will protect the Amalgamation and enhance the UxWumixw cultural values and traditions through respect, equality and harmony for all.

The Squamish Nation members are decedents of Coast Salish Aboriginal Peoples who lived in the present day Greater Vancouver Area.  The Squamish Nation have occupied and governed their territory since before recorded history.

On July 23rd, 1923, Sixteen Squamish speaking tribes decided to amalgamate to form one Nation called the Squamish Indian Band.  Hence we have 16 Hereditary Chiefs and 16 elected Councillors.

Legacy North Shore

Legacy North Shore (LNS) is an independent non-profit society established in 2006 with the express intent of fostering broad-based and informed citizen engagement in support of a sustainable present and future for the North Shore of Metro Vancouver communities.

LNS envisions Vancouver North Shore communities (North and West Vancouver Districts, North Vancouver City) as liveable, vibrant and healthy for present and future generations and a model for other communities.

In our vision, by 2020 the North Shore will be one of the most sustainable places in the world by demonstrating commitment and action to: a low carbon footprint, a strong network of neighbourhoods through connected residents, diversity in housing, a vibrant economy supported by local labour supply and leadership in environmental stewardship.
